From Plymouth to Pole: Scott, Science and the Men who Sailed South

2012 marks 100 years since one of the most courageous deeds in our nation’s history of exploration. Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his Terra Nova Expedition team bravely walked across 800 miles of snow and ice to the South Pole, reaching their destination on 17 January 1912. Sadly, tragedy struck during their return journey and they perished in the cold wasteland as they ran out of food.

Scott was born and educated in Plymouth and the city is honoured to mark this important anniversary.

Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery. Saturday 14 January to Saturday 14 April 2012. Open hours will be 10am to 5.30pm, Tuesday to Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays and Bank Holiday Mondays. Admission is free.

Happy New Year to all our guests. This year we hope to carry on the program of redecoration and refurbishment and have already plans for more projects in order to keep everything in tip top form.
